The third episode of the Aotearoa Independent Film Podcast is here!
In this episode, I sat down the Series Producer for Day One Shorts, Rina Patel.
Day One Shorts is a series of funded short films made by young emerging filmmakers that explore cultural, social and political issues.
Every year Day One provides funding and support for a selection of young filmmakers to bring their short film scripts to life. This week sees the release of this year’s collection of short films produced by the Day One Shorts programme.
DAY ONE SHORTS (formerly Someday Stories) now has this year’s eight short films available to view for free online at Day One, RNZ, and Whakaata Māori. Targeting audiences from all walks of life, the talented young filmmakers have drawn from their experiences and creativity to tell their stories on screen. Follow @dayone_nz on instagram.
I was lucky enough to see these shorts in-theatre this week was was absolutley stunned by the level of technical and artistic craft on display by these young filmamkers.

Rina also recently produced a short film alongside Mark Prebble and Marion Prebble who co-wrote the script for PleasureDora, a short film about a glitchy robot who thinks she finally has the chance to reach her full potential, only to realise that she can't update anymore and suddenly has to face mortality. This short will be released on the big screen in the coming months, to keep posted, follow Rina @snakey.p on instagram.
As always, the Aotearoa Independent Film Podcast is produced in collaboration with Day One Hāpai te Haeata. You can find out more about Day One and they work they do to support emerging New Zealand filmmakers on their official website dofilm.co.nz
